Me and Poetry Got a Love Thang

So much of American pop culture glorifies ignorance,

But glorifying knowledge will never lose significance,

I used to be independent

With the occasional woman friend,

Then love found me,

And I was cooler than I had ever been,

Foreplay on full display,

I finger fuck patience and peace,

Creating a radiant beast,

If only poetry could speak,

My words do my thoughts no justice,

Only in death,

In the presence of the Almighty am I fucked with,

I used to only write for my own entertainment,

Sometimes still do,

But many found my slang easy to hang with,

So, my memory takes you on a rendezvous,

I feel safe in poetry, I can control it,

And she knows it,

I can dominate her,

I can take her where I choose,

The irony is when I first started,

It was the blues,

Eventually I went undefeated,

Each syllable enlightens heathens,

Lucky to still be breathing,

Fortunate to be speaking,

My mind damn near killed me,

Easier to be filthy than angelic,

Old rhymes are now relics,

‘Dumb nigga’ had the nerve to think

He could write poetry and sell it,

Let fate tell it,

He was a winner as soon as he learned his ABCs,

Felt more accomplished writing books

Than getting my degrees,

But that’s just me,

Not fit for this planet, or era,

Alien, human skin wearer,

High off my own supply of brainwaves,

No need for drugs,

Early 2000s was an insane phase

For my craft,

Only God knows my wrath,

The genius is finding patterns and meanings

Where there aren’t any,

Life taught me plenty,

The greatest because of my versatility,

Lyrical ability, and word placement,

One line could strip a dime naked,

Or have a multitude of people awakened…

“It is not just enough to know that there is a God, even the devil knows there is a God…”
