Anguish in the Language (2019)

Long before 45

Blacks were being vilified,

They used to lynch us and be filled with pride,

So many have died behind the lies,

Many intend to keep that hate alive,

This is the great divide,

Because we’re not going backwards

No matter how loud you scream,

Or how much you scheme…

Equality is a dream, seldom seen,

Though many of us are living the good life,

Others are walking around looking like they died twice,

Being treated like animals,

And we are still being called that in certain places

By racists,

Whether behind our backs or in our faces,

It simply isn’t safe to be in certain spaces,

Harassed over our greatness,

Yet so many wish to harness it and take it,

They used to make the Black women strip naked,

Just because they were so fascinated,

Some of these kids are still discovering

What Blackface is,

Sickening is the hatred,

Countless lives wasted,

My blessing is to speak for those

Who can’t speak for themselves,

Those being hunted down and thrown in cells,

Those who are dismissed and disregarded,

Through these hardships we came up with our own jargon…

Some of yall spend so much time trying to show people

How hard you are,

But in reality,

You are revealing how far away from God you are,

And for some, how scarred you are,

I always thought it was backwards

When cats would brag about being locked up,

Or watching the coke rock up,

But hey, I recognized the artistry and their spirit,

I mean, dope lyrics are dope lyrics,

Now we’re sitting here with a problem on our hands,

So many poisoned fans,

Lamenting negative messages which lent a hand

In desensitizing the killing of Black men,

It’s entertainment,

But there are one too many arraignments,

There was anguish in the language,

One would be naïve to think this process was painless,

Then again, nowadays being a dirt bag will make you famous…
